学院学科实力雄厚，学校物理学科是世界一流学科和广东省攀峰重点学科，学院光学是国家重点学科，光学工程是广东省优势重点学科，拥有5个科研与教学平台，包括:

学院积极开展产学研合作，建成大族工业激光研究院、广东激光加工技术产学研结合示范基地等多个校企产业化服务平台。

School of Information and Optoelectronic Science and Engineering SCNU was initiated and established in 2002 by Mr. Liu Songhao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a famous optical and laser expert and former president of South China Normal University. The history of the School can be traced back to the South China Institute of Quantum Electronics established in 1986. After more than 30 years of construction and development, the School has now been built into a polytechnic institute with reasonable professional structure, abundant teachers, obvious research direction characteristics and integration of production, teaching and research, and has become an important optoelectronic information personnel training and scientific research base in South China. The School has 76 faculty members, 939 undergraduates, 290 postgraduates and 33 doctoral students.

 

The School has a high-level faculty with optimized talent structure and interdisciplinary integration. There are 25 teachers with senior professional titles, 19 with deputy senior professional titles, 2 with academicians, 21 doctoral supervisors and 42 master supervisors, and 60 with doctoral degrees, accounting for 78.9% of the total. Over the years, the faculty of the School has 19 experts who enjoy special government subsidies,1 national "May Day" labor medal winner, 2 national advanced science and technology workers in colleges and universities, 1 national outstanding science and technology worker, 1 national expert with outstanding contributions, 1 national overseas high-level talent introduction, 3 experts with outstanding contributions in Guangdong Province, 1 leading talent in Guangdong Province, 2 Pearl River scholars and 1 leading talent in Guangzhou Development Zone. 1 winner of the Guangdong Outstanding Youth Fund,1 top-notch young person for scientific and technological innovation in Guangdong Province, 1 training object for outstanding young teachers in Guangdong Province, six provincial training objects for the "Ten Thousand" Project in Guangdong Province, and six school-level training objects.

 

The strength of the discipline of the School is strong. The physics discipline of the school is a world-class discipline and a key discipline in Guangdong Province. The optics is a national key discipline and the optical engineering is a key discipline with advantages in Guangdong Province. It has five scientific research and teaching platforms.At the same time.The School has actively carried out industry-university-research cooperation and built a number of industrial service platforms for colleges and enterprises.
