  1996年7月于中国科学院系统科学研究所博士毕业,1998年清华大学电机系博士后出站,后留校任教。1999年被聘为清华大学副教授,2003年被聘为清华大学电机系教授,2005年获国家杰出青年科学基金,2009年获聘长江学者,2011年当选IET Fellow,2013年被评为基金委创新群体学术带头人,2014年当选IEEE Fellow。2001-2002年期间作为访问教授先后赴国立新加坡大学、日本上智大学、日立公司、英国Brunel大学开展访问与合作研究。目前主要从事电力系统鲁棒控制、复杂电力网络理论、电力系统灾变防治和新能源电力系统等研究。建立了电力系统非线性鲁棒控制理论和自组织临界理论,提出了电力系统暂态分析半张量积方法和基于博弈论的新能源电力系统调度控制方法,解决了电力系统非线性鲁棒控制器构造和连锁故障机理辨识两大科学问题。研发了发电机组非线性鲁棒励磁控制器、非线性有源滤波器和无燃烧压缩空气储能系统,突破了发电机组抗干扰励磁控制、配电网电能质量治理和高效物理储能三大技术瓶颈,成果应用于我国多个电力系统和国防工程。
